Surrounded by her family, Anna Catherine Price Zerbe was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on April 5, 2025, having battled pulmonary fibrosis for several years. Anna was born at home on October 19, 1937 to Donald and Alma Price of Hughesville, PA. She graduated from Hughesville High School in 1955 where she played trumpet in the band and was a cheerleader. Until her death she attended high school class reunions and monthly breakfasts with her classmates. In 1956 she married Roy Zerbe and they shared a life together for 58 ½ years. She graduated from State Beauty School and worked 42 years as a hairdresser for the Beauty Bar and then Personal Appearance. She also worked for 10 years at Wegmans. She is predeceased by parents; Donald and Alma Price, husband; Roy Zerbe and her beloved sister; Shirley Parsons. Surviving Anna are her brother, Donald Price (Patsy), daughter, Denise (Frank) and son, David (Ann) along with her grandchildren; Jennifer (Jim), Don (Ginger), Amanda (Floyd II), Emily, David II (Amanda Rae) and her faithful feline companions; Rusty and Princess. She is also survived by the most adorable great-grandchildren; Nick, Logan, Kiki, David III, Dawson, Hannah, Presley, Joey, Carter, Riley, Novah, Josie and Westin. She will also be forever missed by nieces and nephews; Kathy, Paul, Bob, Daunn, Hallee, Pam, Penny and Jimmy as well as great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Anna was adventurous and fun. As a grandmother, she never missed a ball game, dance recital, or birthday party – especially the roller skating birthday parties. She enjoyed going to amusement parks, water parks and snow sledding with her grandchildren and you could find her riding all the rides along with them.
Anna was a member of Balls Mills United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She was faithful to Bible study and enjoyed her devotion time every day. She will miss her church family, especially her best friend Colleen, whom she visited weekly.
Anna was so creative; many fond memories of her playing the piano in the evenings. She was always crafting; sewing, ceramics, ballpoint embroidery paint pens, knitting, crocheting and in recent years monogramming and quilting. Mom knitted many custom sweaters; with Nascar and other racing themes, special automobiles, and many cute grandchildren sweaters. Anna was also a puzzler; crossword, sudoku, and jigsaw. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years and took her troop on many camping trips and an epic bike ride from Balls Mills to Pine Creek before the rail trail.
Anna loved to dance; if the music started she was up and dancing. Anna & Roy took square dance lessons together and Anna sewed matching square dancing skirts and shirts. They were a sight to behold! She also enjoyed line dancing lessons and joined a line dance group in Holden Beach, NC when she and Roy were snowbirds.
When mom was given the news about the progression of her disease, she looked at the doctor and told her she was excited to get home for a cup of coffee and some ginger snaps. She always kept a bag of Hershey’s dark chocolate chips in her silverware drawer and there were usually more chips scattered in the drawer than in the bag.
So many thanks to her granddaughter - Amanda, who navigated her Nanny’s health care in the final years. Also thank you to physicians Dr. Ranasuriya, Dr. Harer, and UPMC Hospice.
