William E. "Bill" Koons Sr., 76, of Jersey Shore, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at his home following his long battle with cancer.

     Surviving is his wife, Marian I. (Willits) Koons, with whom they would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on June 26.

     Born May 4, 1940, in Jersey Shore, he was a son of the late Donald E. and Mabel L. (Wilson) Koons.

     Bill attended Jersey Shore School District. He began working for the former Simon Wrecking Company when he was 15 years old and retired from the current Penn Recycling.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1057, Jersey Shore. Bill was a talented woodworker and was always the first one to lend a helping hand when someone was in need. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was affectionately known as "Pappy Bill."

     Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, William E. Jr. (Brenda), Alan E. (Ardella), and Dennis L. (Crystal) Koons, all of Jersey Shore; six grandchildren, Jason Koons (Jaime), Billi-Jo Ehrenberger (Ben), Brittany, Alicia, and Vincent Koons and Amanda Maucke; seven great-grandchildren, Caleb, Lillianna, and Christopher Koons, Lukas and Kaydence Ehrenberger, and Tommy and Anna Maucke; six brothers, Kenneth Koons (Kate), of Jersey Shore, Raymond Koons (Shirley), of Hershey, James  Koons (Becky), of Huntersville, Jack Koons (Margaret), Tomas Koons (Kathy), and Dale Koons (Renee), all of Jersey Shore; four sisters, Emma Welsh, of Linden, Lois Beackley (Charles), of South Williamsport, Judy Miller and Mary Getgen, both of Jersey Shore.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Koons; a brother, Donald Koons; and a sister, Martha Koons.

     In keeping with his wishes a graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
