Virginia A. Oeler-Bartraw, 86, of Williamsport, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. Surviving is her loving husband, David L. Bartraw.
Born March 5, 1932, in Lewisburg, she was a daughter of the late Alice (Speck) Minnier. Growing up Ginny's fondest memories included roller-skating and driving powder puff race cars as a teenager.
Ginny worked in her earlier years as a waitress at Hepburn Diner. She later retired from River Valley Transit as a city bus driver, and also drove for Loyalsock Township School District. Regardless of what bus she was driving, she enjoyed interacting with the kids and folks who were on her bus route.
She will fondly be remembered in the community for her holiday attire dressing as Mrs. Claus during Christmas time and her unique Halloween costumes that changed from year to year. Ginny was full of youth and beauty at every age and always lit up a room upon her entrance. Her greatest achievement in life was the family she had raised, taking great pride in her children.
Surviving are her six children, Debra K. McCluskey of Kalamazoo, Mich., Rick D. (Shelly) Oeler of Springfield, Mo., Christine (John) Lendvay of Windham, Ohio, Michael Oeler (Terri) of Bloomingdale, Ill., Mark T. (Shari) Oeler of Montoursville, and Tina (Dalton) Rook, of Williamsport; three step children; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Georgia Speck.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Brian and Eugene Speck; and a son-in-law, Jon McCluskey.
A funeral service to honor the life of Virginia will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Doug Eberly officiating. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Sanders. Burial will be private in Montoursville Cemetery.
