Thomas J. “Tom” “Bear” Young, 58, of Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the Hospital of the University of Penn, Philadelphia.
Born August 7, 1960, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Joseph H. Young, Sr. and Lillian L. (Bailey) Young.
Tom was a graduate of Williamsport Area High School and was previously employed at Nicholas Meat LLC., Keystone Veneer, and the Surplus Outlet. He also graduated with a 4.0 from the driver academy.
Tom was a social member of the American Legion Post #1 where he enjoyed spending time with his many friends. He was an avid outdoorsman, where he could be found hunting, fishing, boating and spending his summers at his river lot. He also enjoyed going to yard sales, working on cars, listening to country music, and was an excellent cook and enjoyed a good BBQ. Tom loved people and was a loving and giving man to all that knew him. Most of all Tom loved children and they were all drawn to his caring and loving personality.
Surviving are two brothers, David H. Gardner (Stacy L.), of Williamsport and Joseph H. Young, Jr. (Karen), of Ulster, two sisters, Judy A. Gardner, of New York and Sarah E. Hartranft (David), of Williamsport, numerous nieces and nephews, and his favorite dog, Is-She.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, James S. Gardner and his beloved dog, T.J.
A memorial service to honor the life of Tom will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at Sanders Mortuary.
Tom had the honor to be an organ donor and in lieu of flowers the family of Tom would like memorial contributions be made in his name to the Gift of Life Family House 401 Callowhill Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123.
