Stevanie Joy (Shaffer) Hawkes

Stevanie Joy Hawkes, 96, of Williamsport died peacefully Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Williamsport Home. Surviving is her loving husband of 72 years, E. Gale Hawkes.

Born Feb. 2, 1923, in Denver, Colorado, she was a daughter of the late Steve and Florence M. (Palmer) Shaffer.

Joy was a graduate of Marshall High School in Hollywood, California. She was a devoted wife and very supportive of her husband's military career. Joy was a proud mother and grandmother and enjoyed reading.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Stephen "Gil" Hawkes (Bonnie), of North Vernon, Indiana, and Gary "G.W." Hawkes (Kay), of Williamsport; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Hawkes, of Williamsport.

Joy was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth "Gale" Hawkes.

In keeping with her wishes, services will be held privately with burial in Wildwood Cemetery.
