Michael Hennigan Obituary

Michael Hennigan, 77, of Cogan Station, passed peacefully in his sleep on December 28, 2018. Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Lucas) Hennigan.

Born November 15, 1941 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Bruce and Frances (Pfleegor) Hennigan.

Mike was a graduate of Williamsport Senior High School class of 1959. After graduation he proudly served our country in the United States Navy as a FT-1123.  Following his years in the service, Mike was a third generation employee at AVCO, currently Lycoming Engines, until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and was a Mason.  He was a life member of the NRA and Moose.

Above all else Mike enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren imparting with them, memories that will last them a lifetime.  He was always the source of entertainment, laughter, and joy who truly was the life of the party wherever he went. Mike’s love of crossword puzzles kept his wit and humor sharp as a tack. When his children were younger, Mike spent his time cutting grass at Grampian Blvd., where they often served as tagalongs. In addition to his family, Mike enjoyed spending his time outdoors cutting firewood for his home.  He was a dedicated and dependable chaperone for the Camp Kiwanis ‘Salladasburg Elementary School 6th Grade Camp Out’ program. Even after his youngest child surpassed the program he continued to mentor young minds with his knowledge and wisdom.

Mike was a lover of ‘stuff’ he had the ability to find anything and consider it a treasure.  If there was anything anyone needed, you could find it with him. Mike was a truly selfless person and was always there to lend a hand to friends, family, and strangers. Every Friday on his weekly ‘paper route’, he collected accumulated old newspapers from friends and family. During his collections he often had many heartfelt conversations.  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children; Teresa Lauer, of Jersey Shore, Michael (Joyce) Hennigan, of Linden, Patrick Hennigan, of Williamsport, Vincent (April) Hennigan of Jersey Shore, Robert (Robyn) Hennigan of Salladasburg and Trenna (Shawn) Fink of Rauchtown; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three siblings; John (Evelyn) Hennigan of Linden, Helen Thompson of Williamsport, and Faith (William) Breen of  Williamsport; a sister- in- law; Nancy Hennigan of Williamsport; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Mike was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina McCabe; two brothers, Bruce Ezra Hennigan and Eugene A. Hennigan; a brother-in- law Johnny Thompson and a sister-in-law Maxine Hennigan.
