Martha Lois (Hoffman) Martz, 98, of Williamsport, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at the Williamsport Home, where she had resided for several years.
Born Aug. 25, 1918, in Bloserville, Cumberland County, she was one of seven children of the late Rev. Benjamin Griffin and Eva Imogene "Jean" (Miller) Hoffman. She was preceded in death by her husband David J. Martz Sr. in 1992 after 50 years of marriage. 
Martha was a 1936 graduate of Williamsport High School and graduated from Williamsport School of Nursing in 1939. At the time of her death she was one of the two oldest living alumnae of the nursing school, the other being her sister-in-law, Edna C. Martz.
In 1941, 20 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor she married David J. Martz at Newberry United Methodist Church with her father as presiding minister. As the wife of a U.S. Navy officer, she lived in many cities around the country. In 1946, however she returned to Williamsport for the birth of her only child David J. Martz Jr.
To the end she remained a member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son David J. Martz, Jr., of Vienna, Va.; four of her six siblings, Alice G. McBride and Benjamin G. Hoffman Jr., both of Williamsport, Jean E. Robb, of Clearfield, and Dean E. Hoffman, of Woolrich; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Yasui and  Anna Mae Haney.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
