Larry C. Kilgus, 74, of South Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at UPMC Williamsport. Surviving is his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Anne (Tompkins) Kilgus.
Born March 15, 1945, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Gordon C. and Ruth (Winner) Kilgus. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca (Rader) Kilgus, in 1980.
Larry was a 1964 graduate of South Williamsport High School, and continued working on the dairy farm where he grew up and loved. He was employed by Valley Farms Dairy for 13 years, owned and operated L&M Disposal Service, and for the past 18 years could be found driving a South Williamsport school bus. Larry was a member of the South Williamsport Lions Club, where he was a two-time past president, and a recipient of the Lions Fellow, Melvin Jones Award and Lion of the Year.
He enjoyed doing anything outdoors. The farm and home were his happy places. Larry was an avid lover of trains; from a young age he would be found watching the railroad tracks behind the farm. He enjoyed watching the old T.V. shows and Westerns. A man who's heart was made of gold, he loved nothing more than his wife, children and being called "Poppy."
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Lawrence C. "Chris" Kilgus of Westfield, Keith C. Kilgus (Lori) of Danville, Kevin L. Kilgus of Muncy, Kimberly A. Gardner (Travis) of South Williamsport, and Pamela A. Logan (Randy) of Ellijay, Ga., nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. A graveside service will follow visitation in Wildwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry's name to the South Williamsport Lions Club, 544 E. Seventh St., South Williamsport, PA 17702, or South Williamsport High School Class of 1964 Reunion Committee, c/o Ann Shaibley, 360 S. Howard St., South Williamsport, PA 17702.
