Kenneth L. Porter, 88, of Williamsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. Ken married the former Patricia A. Huffman, who survives, on Oct. 16, 1954, and together they shared 62 years of marriage.


Born Jan. 19, 1929, in Ogdensburg, he was a son of the late Burdett M. and Lydia (Schmelzle) Porter.


Ken graduated from Williamsport High School, Class of 1946 and also from Williamsport Technical Institute. He served his country in the U.S. Army, 1st Calvary during the Korean War. He worked as a carpenter for various builders and later retired from Williamsport Wire Rope (Bethlehem Steel) in 1993.


Ken was a member of Newberry Church of Christ where you could often find him helping out with various projects. He was a member of Dietrich Lamade F.&A.M. Lodge No. 755, a 32nd degree Mason of the Valley of Williamsport Scottish Rite, and a member of the Williamsport Consistory, and the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. Ken enjoyed taking care of his lawn and gardening, camping, square dancing, woodworking and building.


Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, David (Angela) Porter, of Montoursville, Richard (Kara) Porter, of Vestal, N.Y, D. Mark Porter, of Williamsport, and Michael (Suellen) Porter, of Cogan Station; eight grandchildren, Nicole, R.J., Daniel, Chelsea, Krista, Patrick, Collin and Ava; stepgrandchildren, Robert, Kyle, Erica, and Tanner; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


Kenneth was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Getgen and Leona Butters and a brother, Roy Porter.


A funeral service to honor Ken's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at Newberry Church of Christ, 2101 Linn St., Williamsport, with his Pastor, Ronald D. Savits, officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 20 p.m., at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport (a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m.) and from 10-10:30 a.m. Friday at church.
