After leaving Litton’s employment, she ran a couple small businesses in the Newberry area. Kate's last job was selling cleaning products and vitamins. She also ran a rural Sun-Gazette paper route for several years.
Kate was a member of the former Newberry United Methodist Church for many years. While a member there, she was a Sunday school teacher, president of the United Methodist Women’s group and later took training to be a lay leader. She also helped to organize and run the Strawberry Festival held "in the square." After Newberry United Methodist Church closed, Kate became a member of Heshbon Park United Methodist Church.
