James R. Fortney, 88, of Williamsport, died peacefully, Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Williamsport Home.
Born December 24, 1929 in Williamsport, he was a son of Edison J. and Helen Mae (Shook) Fortney. He married Normalie J. Hughes on September 11, 1954.
Jim was a 1947 graduate of Williamsport High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Anchor-Darling Valve in 1992 after 37 years. Jim was a member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was an honorary life member of Salt Run Hunting Club. He loved being outdoors; hunting, fishing, gardening, and planting and nurturing trees.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son Marc S. Fortney and his wife Laura of Jersey Shore, and two granddaughters Rebecca and Jennifer Fortney.
A funeral service to honor the life of Jim will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. Burial will be held in State Road Cemetery, Cogan Station. Visitation will be held from 12-1 p.m. Thursday at Sanders Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to St. John’s-Newberry UMC 2101 Newberry St. Williamsport, PA 17701.
