James F. Dawes, 77, of Syracuse, NY died Friday, January 17, 2020, at Crouse Hospital.
Born June 14, 1942, in Williamsport, PA, he was a son of the late James A. Dawes and Rowena Baney Dawes Fasolt.
James was a graduate of Williamsport High School. He owned and operated his dairy farm for many years and retired as an associate from Sears. Most recently he managed several local properties for Odiart LLC.
James was a member of Belleville Methodist Church in Belleville, NY and former member of State Road United Methodist in Linden, PA. His passions were trains, gardening, hunting and storytelling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Carol V. (Mahaffey) Dawes; children, Cynthia (Robert) VanCoughnett of Adams Center, NY, Yvonne (Patrick) Shaw of DeWitt, NY, Stephen (Suzanna) Dawes of Charlotte, NC, and Rebecca MacCaull of Fayetteville, NY; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Arthur (Connie) Dawes, Blossburg, PA, Paul (Chery) Dawes, Selinsgrove, PA, and Patricia (Tom) Calderon, Athens, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather Earl Fasolt, father and mother in law, William and Sarah Mahaffey.
A service to honor the life of Jim will be held Saturday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. at State Road United Methodist Church, 6738 Daughertys Run Road, Linden, PA 17744. Interment will be in State Road Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the State Road Cemetery Association, c/o Diane McClain 478 Paulhamus Hill Rd. Cogan Station, PA 17728.
