Helen Marie Nicholas, 91, of Linden, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Myron (Nick) L. Nicholas on Aug. 17, 2016.

Born in Old Lycoming Township on Dec. 28, 1925, she was the only daughter of the late Claude A. and M. Ruth (Thomas) Pidcoe.

Helen attended Forest Glen Grade School. Due to her dad's ill health, Helen quit school in the 8th grade and attended to duties on the farm and went to work at a young age to help out with financial obligations. Helen was a hard worker and was always willing to give and do for others and help in any situation where there was a need. She did not need to be asked to do and never expected any special recognition or thanks. Mom had a big heart and was truly a giver in so many ways.

Helen was employed as a deli and bakery manager at the Home Dairy for 24 years. She retired from Hoyer's Photo Supply in 1992 after 26 years of employment. After her first retirement, Helen cleaned for many years, for Eleanor and Jack Whiting and their nephew Herb Poff, all while she was working as the janitor for the Linden Post Office.

She was a former member of Buchanan Baptist, and was an active member of Linden Presbyterian and Newberry Church of Christ. In 1986, she became a charter member of Independent Church of Christ, which was the forerunner of Garden View Church of Christ, where she was an active member and served as Deaconess for many years.

Helen enjoyed gardening, walking, knitting and crocheting. She especially valued spending time in her recliner or on her front porch, with her family and her adopted grand-pug Libby Lou, whom she loved dearly. In addition, she and Nick enjoyed their annual summer vacations at the Ladore Salvation Army Camp in Waymart.

Surviving is a daughter, Betty A. Nicholas (Bill Miller), and a son, Robert S. Nicholas, both of Linden, and many cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grand-pug Libby, brother-in-law Wilbur Nicholas and stepbrother/sister-in-law Virgil and Kathryn Nicholas, Uncle Louie and Aunt Hazel Thomas, and maternal grandmother Elizabeth Goetz.

A memorial service to honor the life of Helen will be held 12 noon, Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Garden View Church of Christ, 1941 Princeton Ave. with her former pastor Major Marie Harris and current Pastor Marty Coffey, officiating. Burial will follow in Buchanan Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.

A thank you to our adopted family at the Williamsport Regional Healthcare System, as mom and dad were frequent fliers to the hospital and many doctor's offices. They both received wonderful tender loving care from many and we all have experienced many miracles over the years. Also, a big thank you to Helen and Nick's "adopted granddaughter" Heather Maday and Jason Dockey for allowing Libby to become a permanent part of mom and dad's family. Libby Lou was truly their little lifeline and brought them many hours of joy and gave them complete self-worth over their retirement years.

Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to Garden View Church of Christ, care of the Baptistry Fund, 1941 Princeton Ave. Williamsport, PA 17701.
