Ford Garth Drake, 89, of Cogan Station, died Friday, August 17, 2018 at his home.
Born October 11, 1929 in Powys, Cogan Station, he was a son of Frank G. and Margaret (Young) Drake. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Catherine M. “Kate” Drake who died April 1, 2010.
He was a graduate of Hepburn High School. In 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1950. In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1957. Following his military service he was employed by Stroehmann’s for 20 years, and then was employed by Pleasant Valley Processing.
Ford collected antique cars and was a charter member of the Susquehannock Chapter of the AACA. He was a member of the F.&A.M. Lodge #106, where he served as chaplain for many years. He was a member of Trout Run U.M.C. and also a member of the Korean War veterans of Lycoming County, He enjoyed watching football and racing, and enjoyed gardening and reading.
Ford loved being with his family, surviving are a daughter Patti A. Drake of Cogan Station, and two sisters Carol Roan (Chuck) of Palm Bay, FL, and Frances Herz of Waverly, NY, his beloved cat Fred (who sorely misses him), and his grand cat Nick who misses being in his lap.
A funeral service to honor Ford’s life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 22 at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Sanders.
