Elizabeth L. "Betty" (Krauser) Shadowens, of Russel Springs, Ky., and formerly of South Williamsport, died Dec. 31, 2017, in Kentucky just shy of her 98th birthday.

Born Jan. 4, 1920, in South Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Robert M. and Clara M. (Eiswerth) Hamm.

The most important thing to Betty was her family and home. She loved to sew, making Easter and Christmas dresses for her granddaughters, and a lot of times used her own patterns. She enjoyed embroidering and making baby quilts and bedspreads for her great-grandchildren. She once entered one of her handmade baby quilts in a county fair in Deming, N.M., where she lived at the time, and won a blue ribbon. She was a gardener and enjoyed canning and freezing her harvest.

Betty will be gravely missed for the stories she shared about her childhood and her ancestors, as well as the crazy things her two cats, Freddie, the bad one, and Baby, the sweet one, did with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be missed as the matriarch of her family. Betty was the last surviving sibling of the Hamm family.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Dorothy "Dot" (Daniel) Bricker, of Russel Springs, Ky., with whom she resided, Rita Chilson, Marybeth Harman, both of Williamsport; Robert (Annette) Krauser, of Montoursville, Gregory (Mary Anne) Krauser, of Trout Run, Lawrence (Joanne) Krauser, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and a step-daughter, Susan (William) Edner of Hughesville. Betty is survived by nearly 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and William Hamm; sisters, Dorothy Boyles and Ruth Allen; her first husband, Edward P. Krauser, Sr.; her second husband, Lacy Shadowens; as well as five of her children, Edward P. "Sonny" Krauser, Jr., Margaret A. "Sis" Vance, Anthony "Butch" Krauser, Cynthia "Cindy" Oeler and Jon R. "Rick" Krauser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 800 West Central Ave., South Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport.

Memorial contributions in Betty's name may be made to UK Markey Cancer Foundation restricted to Hospice, 800 Rose St., CC160, Lexington, KY 40536-0093.
