Charles M. "Charlie" Mextorf

Charles M. “Charlie” Mextorf, 88, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019. Surviving is his loving wife of 68 years, Eleanor (Schade) Mextorf.

Charlie was born August 8, 1930 in Jersey City, NJ but proud to be raised in Brooklyn, NY. He was a son of the late Martin and Berna (Johansen) Mextorf.

Charlie did many things for work during his life. He was a Vice President at Gruenberg Oven Company and owned his own electronics company. Most recently he held the position of Safety Director at Staiman Recycling. As a member of White Deer Golf Complex, he cherished golfing with his sons and grandsons. Charlie was an Original Little League coach and umpire. He was also instrumental in starting the AYSO program in the Williamsport area.

Charlie enjoyed music. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church since 1970. He was very active in the church volunteering and singing in the church choir. He also sang in the West Branch Chorus. Charlie was also a member of the John F. Laedlein Lodge #707 F &AM.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kenneth R. Mextorf (Marnie) of Charlottesville, VA, Thomas M. Mextorf (Debbie) of Lancaster, Richard J. Mextorf (Katherine) of Hamburg, Nancy E. Wood (Keith) of Williamsport, and James W. Mextorf (Lisa) of Albany, NY, 15 grandchildren: Allison, Bethany, Kimberly, Tracy, Ryan, Christopher, Jonathan, Joshua, Andrew, Brian, Emily, Justin, Chelsey, Taylor and Evan, six great-grandchildren: Allan, Abigail, Nathaniel, David, Emma, and Braddick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Nicholas Mextorf, and a sister; Ann Malin.

A memorial service to honor Charlie’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1400 Market St. Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
