Betty J. Nevel, 86, of South Williamsport, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at UPMC Susquehanna-Williamsport.
Born July 28, 1931, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Clifford E. and Ruth D. Sahm Long.
Betty was a homemaker. She was a volunteer at Williamsport Hospital and enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, crocheting, reading and going for rides to get ice cream.
Betty was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Geoffrey "Jeff" Nevel; children, Sharon (Terry) Hackenburg, of Winfield, Richard (Helen Marie) Nevel, of Curwensville, Beth (Jerry) Rees, of Woodland; seven grandchildren, Steve, Craig and Lynda Thomas, Eric Nevel, Sandra Bryant, Andrew Maddas and Evan Rees; nine great-grandchildren, Drew, Alan, Jackson, Briele, Derek, Cree, Piper, Shelby, and Megan.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald and Jack Long, Margaret Kimble, Alta English, Beverly Barton and Nancy Kitchen.
A funeral service to honor the life of Betty will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., with Pastor Eleanor Siegrist, officiating. There will be a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
