Augustine Carl Nicolio, 91, of Murrells Inlet, S.C. and formerly of Williamsport, passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in South Carolina. Augustine was the husband of the former Ellen Poretta and together the couple shared 67 years of marriage with one another.

Born March 5, 1926 in Mayfield, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna (Mite) Nicolio. Augustine was a graduate of Mayfield High School and attended Williamsport Area Community College. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II and retired in 1988 after 40 years of service as a State Inspector of Elevators.

Augustine was a member of the former Mater Dolorosa Church, the Holy Name Society, Sons of Italy, Lodge 138, VFW Post 7863 Duboistown, Knights of Columbus 3th Degree Member of Council No: 8980 in Garden City, SC. And 4th Degree Member of Assembly No: 942 in Williamsport, Pa., American Legion Post 1, and Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 145. He also enjoyed playing cards, softball and bowling. Gus enjoyed life in general!

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter Ann (Steve) Hearton of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son, Frank (Dawn) Nicolio, of Surfside Beach, S.C.; three grandchildren, Stephen Hearton, Jr., Lindsey Nicolio-VanHaltern (Jamie), and Sean Nicolio (Amber); and great grandson, Stephen Hearton, III. His brother Francis Nicolio.

Augustine was preceded in death by his brother Anthony, sisters Mary Nicolio and Jenny Evans.

A funeral service to honor the life of Augustine will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville with Military Honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 31 at Sanders Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in Augustine’s name to Lycoming County Hometown Hero’s, 48 W. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701, to help Veterans in need of assistance.
