William B. Davenport, Jr., 91 passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Leighton Place surrounded by family.

Born November 25, 1932 in Tioga, he was a son of the late William, Sr. and Sarah (Saunders) Davenport.

He graduated from South Williamsport High School in 1950 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Bill lived and worked in the Poughkeepsie, New York area for 60 years, and recently moved back to Williamsport to live with his daughter.

Bill first worked for Railway Express and later spent many years working for Metro North in various positions, retiring after 30 years.

William had a love of all things regarding aviation.  He specifically enjoyed putting together model planes, spending time at air shows and going to museums that featured planes. He was an easy-going, calm, and quiet man who never let things bother him, unless he lost his glasses.

At the end of a long day, William would enjoy a single shot of his favorite bourbon, Jim Beam Black. Above all else, he loved his family, and would do anything for them. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by three children, Crystal D. Michael (George), Deborah J. Tully, all of Williamsport, and William Davenport, III, of Cogan Station; two step-children, Ronald Traver, of South Carolina, and Francis Traver, of New York; a brother, Raymond Davenport, of Lewisburg; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Davenport, of Massachusetts; nine grandchildren; as well as several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline (Yetz) Davenport; a step-daughter, JoAnn Lenahan; and two siblings, David Davenport, and Emily Harrington.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until 3 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. A graveside service to honor William’s life will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
