Julie Gasser Obituary

The happy hour bell has chimed and Bobby and God have held her seat.  On April 11, 2024, Julie B. Gasser joined the love of her life Bobby (Robert C. Gasser) as they belly up and sing “On the Way to Cape May” at Heaven’s Beachfront Bar.

Born August 6, 1941, to the late Arthur Fay and Julia Hoffman Beighley in Williamsport, PA where she was a WHS ‘59er.  She graduated from Lycoming College and became an elementary school teacher, later developing Y-Pals, a nursery school for Wmspt 3-5 year olds.

Julie served on many boards, primarily the Chairman of the Fun board where her motto was “the more the merrier.”  Juls and Bobby called both Williamsport , PA and Cape May, NJ home.  In Wmspt, Julie was a sustainer with the Junior League,  a past member of the Elementary School Board, the Loyalsock Twp. Recreation Board, Tudor Hall, Florence Crittendon Home for Unwed Mothers, The Exchange Mart, and a volunteer for the Red Cross for many years.

In Cape May, Julie was a former commissioner for the Housing Authority, Vice Chairman of the Zoning Board, served with CM City Emergency Management, served as the Evacuation Center Director, Co-Chair of the Food Closet, volunteered with the BloodMobile, a full-time volunteer for Cape May City’s flowers and dune grass and a founding member of the CM Red Hatter’s, tea or beer, whichever suits.

Together, Juls and Bobby enjoyed getting their pals together for whatever mischief and fun they could come up with, boozy bus trips, scavenger hunts, murder and midnight, three-legged races, Sunday jam sessions at Carney’s and crazy hat day on the beach.   They were members of the Williamsport Country Club, the Villas Fishing Club, and the Corinthian Yacht Club.  Julie never met a stray she didn’t like, 2 legs or 4.  There was always room at the table or the trough.  A rescuer of Pugs and Boxers and whatever else was snorting around.  “We’ll make room.”  Julie danced to her own beat.  Join the fun or get out of her way.  It was going to happen and it was going to be good.

Julie is survived by her sister, Frances “Peachy” McDonald, of Williamsport, PA and the luckiest daughter in the world, Julie Ann Born (Richard aka Dicky) also of Williamsport, PA.  AND, our extended FAMILY on Maple Court at We Care at Loyalsock.  So much gratitude for the loving care received from all the angels working there.
