George C. Knerr, III

George C. Knerr III, 82, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, surrounded by family at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Gwendolyn (Stamets) Knerr.

Born March 2, 1942, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late George II and Dorthy (Goodfellow) Knerr.

George was a 1960 graduate of Williamsport High School. After 30 years, he retired as a Skilled Operator from Lonza. He enjoyed antiquing and collecting mechanical and steel banks and Hess trucks. He often could be found watching NASCAR or the Speed Channel.

Above all else, George was a man who loved his family. His incredible work ethic and dedication to providing for his loved ones set an example that his children admired and aspired to emulate. George was not only a devoted father but also a cherished Pop-Pop, whose wisdom and warmth were the guiding light for his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by two children, Lisa Dunkleberger (Don) of Williamsport, and Jeffrey Knerr of Beech Creek; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and several extended family members.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Stanna Knerr, and a sister, Barbara Artley.

A funeral service to honor George’s life will be held at 5 p.m., Thursday, March 14, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Sanders.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to the Old Lycoming Twp. Volunteer Fire Company, 1600 Dewey Ave, Williamsport, PA 17701.
