Desmond Fields Obituary

Desmond Jarrett Fields, 45, known affectionately as Des to his friends and loved ones, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, with his beloved wife by his side.

Born January 18, 1978, in Newark, NJ he was the only child of Howard and Christa Fields.

Des grew up in Maxton, North Carolina where his parents currently reside. He graduated from Purnell Swett High School, where he was on the golf team and Jr. ROTC. He proudly served his country in the United States AirForce as an Airman First Class. Des attended the University of North Carolina Greensboro and earned his Bachelor’s degree from DeVry University.

As a Senior Data Management Analyst, Des worked with numerous hospitality establishments, first in Florida before moving to Tennessee. His professional expertise was only surpassed by his genuine care for colleagues and clients alike.

In his personal life, Des was a pillar of kindness, humor, and friendliness. His passion for sports, especially football, was unmatched. He was a true sports fan, reveling in the thrills of the game, whether it was participating in fantasy leagues, memorizing football statistics, or attending games. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he could often be found sharing his love for the sport with anyone willing to engage in a conversation about the latest game or player performance.

Beyond the football field or video game screen, Des's interests were deeply rooted in his love for his family and friends. He shared an unbreakable bond with his wife, Cheryl L. (Harmon) Fields, whom he married on October 7, 2012 and together they created countless cherished memories. They enjoyed spending quality time with their beloved rescued fur son, Larry, whose antics brought daily joy to their household.

Des was a man who always wanted to hear about your life and your day. His intelligence was matched by his loving and caring nature, and he had an uncanny ability to make people feel heard and valued. His conversations were not just exchanges of words but genuine connections that left a lasting impact on those around him. Des will be remembered as a kind soul who lived life with a sense of purpose and joy. His presence was like a warm embrace, his smile a comforting sight, and his bear hugs were legendary among those lucky enough to receive one. He was truly a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him.

He was greeted at heaven’s gate by the lapping tongues of his beloved dachshunds, Barney and Archie and the warm hugs of those who passed before him.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Cheryl, his loving parents, Howard and Christa Fields, and his cherished in-laws, Alton and Jacqueline Harmon; several aunts and uncles; and a large circle of extended family members who loved him.

A celebration of Desmond's life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. The family will greet friends from 12:30pm until the time of service Saturday at Sanders.
