Richard D. Roan, 82, passed away at his home unexpectedly on Sunday, May 14, 2017. Born October 12, 1934, he was the son of Robert W. and Sylvia M. Cohick Roan.    He and his wife Carol (Kate) would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on September 22.

When Rich was 16 years old he left high school and he and Kate eloped to Winchester VA. He eventually learned to auctioneer, working under his father. In 1963 he and his brother Chuck bought the business from their father and formed the corporation of Bob, Chuck & Rich Roan Inc. In 1989 Rich became the sole proprietor of the business and lead two more generations in the family business. He remained somewhat active in the business until his death. His love of antiques and the great amount of knowledge he had about them was known to everyone. He was fortunate to make many lifelong friends through his business and he appreciated his hard working and loyal employees. He loved to share stories of his travels and experiences.

Rich was a life member of the Wheel Inn, The Red Run Rod & Gun Club, The Republican League, The Ralston Hunting Club and the NRA. He was also a member of the North American Wild Sheep Foundation, Eastern FNAWS, The Williamsport Wheel Club, The Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association, which honored him as Auctioneer of the Year in 2005 and inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2008. He donated his time and talents to raise money for many local charities including the American Cancer Society, Ducks Unlimited, The Less Fortunate Boys Benefit of the Williamsport Wheel Club and The Penn College Foundation.

He was a man who put his family’s needs first and taught his family to help those less fortunate. His greatest joy was giving to others.

Rich is survived by his wife Kate, his daughter Robin (Tim) Pardoe, sons Randy (Jean), Rick, Ron, Rod (Amy); his five grandchildren Amanda (Kris) Covert, Morgan (Brittnee) Roan, Kati (Chad) Zsilavecz, Zane (Lesley) Pardoe and Zachary Roan; and nine great grandchildren Gracie and Amelia Covert, Mason, Mollie and Max Roan, Olivia and Anna Zsilavecz, Lyla Pardoe and Hailey Haefner. He is also survived by a sister Helen Roan and brothers Chuck and Don Roan. He was predeceased by brothers Bob and Carl.
