Richard Darrell “Skip” Lightbourn, 72, of Williamsport, formerly of Paget, Bermuda, died peacefully Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth (Cooper) Lightbourn whom he married April 22, 1972 in Towanda.

Born October 5, 1945 in Washington, D.C. he was a son of the late Romig D. and Louise (Krueger) Lightbourn from Paget, Bermuda.

Richard attended Warwick Academy, in Warwick Bermuda and Bullis Military School. He was a 1963 graduate from Admiral Farragut Military School in St. Petersburg, FL and attended Lycoming College from 1963-1967. Richard served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in Vietnam, Holy Lock, Scotland, and Ft. Bremerton. His time spent in the military was very influential on his life and he was also the recipient of a Purple Heart for his service.

Richard worked in Hotel Management in Bermuda for 23 years. His career started at the Holiday Inn of St. Georges and he later retired as the Director of Sales and Convention Coordinator from the Fairmont Princess Hotel of Southampton, Bermuda. Following retirement, Richard and his wife moved back to Williamsport where he enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards and having lively debates with friends. He was a member of Heshbon Park United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of trustees and was finance chairman.

Richard was a member of Princess Hotels International Retiree Association, Marine Corps League and Association, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, a life member of the Bermuda War Veterans, the Devil Dog Club, Young Men’s Republican Club, and the Wheel Inn.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are his brother, J.R.H. Lightbourn of Bailey’s Bay, Bermuda; three sisters, Dolly Davis and Olive Wilkinson both of Bermuda and Phyllis Sherbourne of Florida, and a brother-in-law Robert E. Cooper of Towanda.

A funeral service to honor the life of Richard will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, at Heshbon Park United Methodist Church, 2898 Heshbon Road Williamsport, with the Rev. Robert Wallace, officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at church, followed by military honors by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in State Road Cemetery.
