Michael F. “Smitty” Smith, 61, of Williamsport, died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Friday, August 25, 2017.

Born May 23, 1956 in Williamsport, he was a son of Frank L. and Helen (Prendergast) Smith.

Mike was a 1974 graduate of Williamsport High School and currently was employed by Great Dane as an assembler and team leader. He previously had worked at Grummans for over 20 years. Mike loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the 7 Pines Hunting Club, Cascade. He was a member of the Republican League, enjoyed watching sports especially Penn State , and loved spending time his family and friends.

Surviving are his mother Helen of Williamsport, five children Kristin L. Smith, Nicole M. Smith, Melissa B. Smith, Kayla A. Smith, and Ryan Michael Smith all of Williamsport, two grandchildren Bryce Hedgcock and Ava Stiller, a sister Ann Ferris, a brother Christopher Smith (Ann) both of Williamsport, his former wife and lifelong friend Suzan Filmeck, close friends and “brothers” Larry Helminiak (June) and Bernie Helminiak (Donna) and his cat  “Kitty”.

A visitation to honor Michael’s life will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond St. Williamsport.
