Florence M. Shirey, 97, of Linden, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Manor Care Jersey Shore surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, John E. Shirey on Oct. 28, 2012, and a son Jim on Dec. 7, 2011.
Born Nov. 30, 1920, in Somerville, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Harlan and Ruth (Woodbridge) Worthley.
Florence above all else was a loving wife and great mother. She was a member of Lycoming Christian Church where she served as a trustee, deaconess and helped with women ministries. Florence had a servant heart and lived her life showing her faith and love for family and friends. She was a talented lady who worked the family farm, drove a school bus, had a private pilot's license, worked as a florist and enjoyed painting landscapes. Florence enjoyed traveling and was the honorary family tour guide. She would navigate where they were going and tell a story on the way.
Surviving are four children: Susan (Steven) Faivre, of Ocala, Fla., Thomas (Linda) Shirey, of Linden, Janet (Terry) Clark, of Carlise, Ky., and John (Paulette) Shirey Jr., of Linden; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Shirey, of Marysville; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor the life of Florence will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Christian Church at Cogan Station, 5904 Lycoming Creek Road. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service on Saturday at church. After the service a fellowship meal will be served.
