Elizabeth “Betty, BJ” Paris, 92, of Loyalsock Twp., passed away holding the hand of her husband on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Valley View Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

She was born August 28, 1924, in Williamsport to Harry B. and S. Mildred (Myers) Kuhns. She was a graduate from Williamsport High School class of 1942, attended Gettysburg College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English from Lycoming College in 1970.

Betty was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and served as president of the local alumni group for many years. She also was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Betty was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Williamsport, where she served as a parish visitor for 25 years, lay caller for 15 years, and co-chair of St. Luke’s seniors. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 24 years.

Betty served as Director of Christian Education for three years at St. Mark Lutheran Church, in Williamsport, where she was a member for more than 50 years. She was employed by Lycoming College as an Administrative Assistant in the Development Office, as Recorder and Registrar. At the time of her retirement in the fall of 1986, she served a term on the college alumni executive board and was a member of the college’s 25 year club.

Surviving is her husband, Charles, of 71 years, with whom she celebrated her anniversary on April 21. Also surviving are two sons and their wives: C. Gregory Paris and Joanne M. Williamson of Charlton, MA and Jeffrey W. and Mary Jo Paris of Atlanta, GA. Two granddaughters, Christine L. and Katherine A. Paris both of Atlanta, GA; a sister Shirley Ann Eriksson (the late William), of Sebring, FL, and nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Myers Kay Kuhns, and a nephew, John H. Kuhns.

A funeral service to honor the life of Betty will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1400 Market Street, Williamsport Rev. Ron Shellhamer, officiating. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at church.
